Featured Bizarre Book #2: The $100 Keytar Book (Keyfax by Julian Colbeck)
I have just listed for sale this one-of-a-kind treasure, a scarce and out-of-print book about Keytars, which is a "relatively lightweight keyboard or synthesizer that is supported by a strap around the neck and shoulders, similar to the way a guitar is supported by a guitar strap" (courtesy of Wikipedia). Popularized by Spyro Gyra, Devo and Herbie Hancock, learning to play the keytar was the sure way to any woman's heart, at least during the mid 1980's.
The sale of this book will benefit the Wichita Public Library, and it bears the typical ex-library markings to the spine, cover and endpapers. Unfortunately, the entire text block has come loose from the binding, and the book is in need of significant repair/recasing. Normally, this particular book would find its way into the recycling bin, but because of its relatively scarcity, it does have considerable value on the Internet (there is only one other copy current for sale at $140). Its contents include Monophonic Synthesisers, Multi-Instrument Kyobards, Pianos and Organs, Home Keyboards, MIDI, Polyphonic Synths, Remote Keyboards, Music Computers and Digital Keyboards, Dedicated Sequencers and Recorders, Amplification, Top Ten, Sling-On Keyboards, Keyboard Lengths, Instrument Brand Names a Glossary and much more.
Included with the sale of this book is the gorgeous photograph of a blond mulleted, hideous Bill Cosby sweater wearing, keytar toting heart-throb featured on the front cover. This book is looking for the one person who will truly appreciate and provide the care and attention it truly deserves.
